AFFOGATO - A SIMPLY ELEGANT DESSERT

If you're looking for a delicious way to enjoy espresso in the summer (or year-round for us here at Compass Point Coffee) and you have access to an espresso machine and premium vanilla ice cream, you should definitely try an affogato.
The term which in Italian translates to "drowned" is simply a scoop of vanilla ice cream or gelato in a cup which then has espresso drawn directly over the ice cream. The result is super creamy and delicious presentation of the two. For best results, have hard frozen vanilla ice cream (preferably locally sourced) so that the espresso will melt some of the ice cream, leaving a solid scoop in the middle to be eaten with a spoon. We have served affrogato in our house for years to the surprise and delight of many dinner guests.

It's simple, delightfully delicious and deserves to be a regular option at coffee houses and on the dessert menus at restaurants. Speaking of locally sourced, this weekend we were excited to have Bellevue Beans feature
Compass Point Coffee beans in their espresso drinks. We stopped in to thank them and to try their espresso. It's a great place that we highly recommend supporting!
